One of the best feelings in the world is getting a new TV and exploring all the new cool features that your old one didn’t have. That is the world we live in now, with the rapid progress in technology, new exciting advancements are being discovered and created all the time. I bet most of you can remember when TVs were a massive, big box and now they are as slim as cardboard! The kids won’t believe it even if you showed them. However, the question still stands of how many years should it take before you buy a new one?

How long is too long?

I imagine every person you ask this question to comes back with a different answer however I have scavenged across the internet collecting data from polls asked to the general population and the results may shock you.

Poll 1

The first poll was conducted by Andriod Authority and collected data from 3,400 people in November 2021 with the results being the following:
. 37% said they only upgrade their TV once every 10+ years
. 22.5% said they only upgrade their TV after 6 to 7 years
. 20% said they would upgrade their TV after 4 to 6 years
. 14.3% said they only upgrade their TV once every 8 to 9 years
. 4.2% said they only upgrade their TV after 2 or 3 years
.1% said they upgrade their TV every year

Although it is not conclusive evidence, it is enough to presume that majority of people in this day and age only upgrade once in a blue moon. This is most likely due to the durability of TVs in this age and day with the average lifespan of one being around 10 years. This proves that TVs are a great long term investment!

Poll 2

This poll was asked on the AVS Forum on July 2018 with 1,100 votes being accounted for. The results were the following:
.1.1% said they replace their TVs once per year

.5.2% said they replace their TV every couple of years

.23.9% said they replace theirs every 3-5 years

.43.4% said they buy a new TV every 5-10 years
.26.5% said they buy a new TV when it breaks

What does this mean?

These results prove that the quality of TVs in this day and age are supreme and the best they have ever been. It shows that if you were to replace your TV today and get a new one, not only would you be getting great new features such as the 4k resolution but also a durable and long-lasting device. This is proven with the average age of a TV in this day and age lasting around 10 years. However, the simple answer to the question of when you should replace your TV is whenever you feel like it. As proven with these two polls many people have different opinions and so it is really in your hands!
