OLED

OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diodes. Individual pixels create their own light source which makes up the picture, they can turn themselves off to show the deepest of black colours. This means that this is a premium viewing experience with deeper blacks and a lot more vibrant colours, greater contrast and improved viewing angles.

SMART TV

A smart TV is a television which can connect to the internet and offers online features such as on demand content including apps like the BBC iPlayer, All 4 and the ITV Hub. With a smart TV you are also able to access streaming services such as Netflix and Now TV. Finally you have the chance to connect to other wireless devices such as smartphones which will allow you to share your screen straight through to the big screen.

LED

LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes. It works by using a blacklight which is shone through an LCD panel to produce the individual pictures. While not as premium as OLED, there are still many reasons to consider an LED TV. There are a lot easier and cheaper to produce, you will have the choice of a wider range of Televisions as manufacturers often apply their technology for a significantly improved picture.

4K

4K TVs have four times more pixels than Full HD TVs which means that they have a horizontal screen resolution of around 4000 pixels. It is best known for its crystal clear viewing and staggering detailing. There is a level of detail and depth that HD sets just simply can’t reach. Big brands such as Samsung, Sony and more now have a large range of 4K TVs, from entry-level models to huge sets costing more.

You will generally find that 4K TVs are big-screen models of 40 inches or more. This is due to the fact that to appreciate the picture quality it’s better to watch on a bigger screen as it can become lost on a smaller screen.

HDR

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and it is the current big thing for 4K TVs and 4K content. The term originates in photography and refers to a technique to heighten a picture’s dynamic range - the contrast between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks. The main theory is that the higher the dynamic range, the closer that a photograph gets to real life, this theory is the same for televisions.
