OLED TVs are becoming widely available in this day and age with many manufacturers such as Sony, Panasonic and LG all leading the way when it comes to revolutionizing our TV screens. Have you been at a friend's house watching a movie recently and noticed a more vibrant and clearer picture on their new TV? Or perhaps you were watching the big, title-deciding match at the bar and the TV seemed to be a lifelike image of being in the stands? Well, that was most likely an OLED TV you were watching on and the difference is crystal clear compared to your average flatscreen.

What is an OLED TV?

OLED TV are a TV display that uses light emitting diodes, hence the name OLED. This technology allows the viewer to get a crystal clear picture that replicates life, with more vibrant colours than your standard LED screen. When you compare the two side by side, the difference is huge with the LED screen looking duller and the OLED display looking crisp and resounding. When you put this into perspective when viewing an HD channel, the difference is even bigger, with the LED screen barely changing and the OLED screen transforming into its full potential. It really feels like you are in that certain movie or at that sports ground - the difference is crazy!

How Are OLED TVs So Slim?

You may have noticed that OLED TVs are even slimmer than some smartphones and that is a pretty impressive feat in this day of age. Due to the technology of the light emitting diodes within the OLED TV producing their own light it removes the need for the chunky back part that LED TVs have. LED LCD screens use a backlight to illuminate their pixels, therefore resulting in the need for a large, chunky area on the back of the appliance, however, with the OLED TV, this is not necessary. So if you are tight on space or want to give the appearance that your TV is just flat on the wall like a picture frame, the OLED TV is the way to go. Some people have even gotten creative with their OLED displays and are taking advantage of their slim and slick nature. A trend has been going around where it has become fashionable to install your OLED screen inside a cavity of your living room wall. This gives the appearance that the TV is flat to the wall and with the vibrant colours and sleek nature of the OLED screen the results look amazing.

How Does the Display Look So Great?

The reason why the OLED TV looks so good is because of the design and new technology involved in the OLED TVs build. Different to LED TVs, OLED actually has individual pixels and cells behind the screen that provide their own light. This helps produce a smoother motion that reduces the amount of blur that would appear on an LED display. Furthermore, as OLED displays have the ability to turn off individual LEDs when displaying the colour black, it means that they can achieve a deeper and fuller colour better than any other display on the market. This deeper colour happens because the technology allows the LEDs to turn off instead of just directing the light away from that part of screen which LCD screens are designed to do.

What About the Burn In Issue?

Due to OLED technology relying on electrifying organic material there is a potential risk that pixels can get stuck if they display a static image for a long duration of time. However, do not fear because this issue of burn-in is practically non-existent if the image is constantly moving. Meaning if you plan on using your OLED screen for watching TV and movies you will not have to worry about this issue in the slightest. The only time this issue may become a problem is if you are playing video games for a long duration of time and a feature such as a health bar is in a static immovable place. After many hours of gameplay, the image may burn into the screen. Do not fret because this image in most cases will just fade away after a couple of hours of not using the OLED screen but it is important to note that exposure to the same static image could cause permanent burn-in on your screen.

Conclusion

Overall, if you are looking on getting that premium viewing experience when it comes to your home viewing experience, an OLED screen is the best option on the market when it comes to picture quality. Not only will watching shows, movies or sports games look amazing, but it will also almost feel like you are actually there and living the real experience.
